As we did last year, throughout the offseason we’re going to delve into the archives and take a look at some of the more memorable moments from previous years. We’ll have game winning shots, dustups and brain snaps, monster jams and much more.

Up now, in this 2001 contest between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, Marcus Camby loses his head after taking a blow from Danny Ferry. He was subdued initially but when he saw blood coming from his eye he charged at Ferry, attempted to throw a haymaker only to have his coach Jeff Van Gundy (bravely) intervene. The end result was a brutal headbutt with JVG “on the follow through of the round house right”, as beautifully articulated by Marv Albert.

Camby was suspended for five games and fined $25,000 for the incident (that’s light). Jeff Van Gundy ended up needing “12 to 15” stitches to close the cut above his left eye.
