Please make welcome Kyrie ‘Aussie’ Irving to the NBAMate Wall of Fame. We thought this would be a fitting post on Australia Day because it’s not every day that a new face appears in the WoF, especially a guy with this much talent and one who has Aussie roots.
Kyrie was born in Australia in 1992 while his father was playing professional basketball in Melbourne, and he holds dual citizenship. Sadly, he declined the invitation to don the green and gold at the London Olympics, but I think we’ll cut him some slack on that one because you can guarantee he’ll be running the point for Team USA one day soon. He’s that good. (But man, a Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Ben Simmons/Joe Ingles/Andrew Bogut line-up at the 2016 Games would have been unreal)
At just 20 years of age Kyrie has already established himself as an elite player in this league (did you see him drop 40 on Boston this week?) and I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish throughout his career.
And just like the All-Star berth (congrats young fella!), earning a place in NBAMate’s hallowed Wall of Fame can now be checked off his to-do list.
No hard feelings, Richo.
