Miami came out with a point to prove in the early going of game two, getting off to a red hot start and leading 18-2 after seven minutes of action. As always the Thunder bounced back and this was a closer game than it probably should have been down the stretch. Nonetheless we move on to Miami for the next three games of the series, and the Heat will theoretically have a chance to win the title at home.
3 votes – LeBron James. Solid would be the best way to describe LeBron’s play in Game 2. We’ve become spoiled with our expectations of James in the playoffs. His Game 1 stat line of 30 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals was considered a disappointment, and when looking for an explanation as to why the Heat were unable to take care of business, it’s James whose mental toughness down the stretch is the point of discussion.
But he took care of business in Game 2, recording a similar line (32 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) and delivering on 12-12 free throws, including a pair which would ultimately ice the win for Miami.
2 votes – Kevin Durant. I thought the Thunder had mounted the kind of comeback they would have needed for KD to get them over the line down the stretch tonight. An unfortunate no-call with time expiring proved too much for the Thunder to overcome and despite the heroics of Durant and Westbrook, this one was close, but no cigar.
1 vote – Chris Bosh/Dwyane Wade. Strong performances from Miami’s next two guys. Bosh was getting after loose rebounds throughout the game and his effort gave Miami a handful of second chance opportunities which helped get them over the hump.
Dwyane put forth the kind of effort we’ve come to expect of him throughout his illustrious career and as this series continues we’ll expect nothing less than performances like this. Wade also used up his get out of jail free card tonight – his turnover which led to a Durant three in the last minute of the game could have cost Miami the win – but fortunately they were bailed out by a pair of clutch free throws from LeBron and a no-call down the other end of the floor.
