Thanks to NBAMate reader Zac for posting this one. Seems like the “Bogut for All-Star” campaign is not dead yet, according to Steve Aschburner at NBA.com.
“Bogut, why isn’t he on the All Star team? A guy averaging numbers like that, a double-double, for a team on the cusp [of a playoff berth]? If he gets a little luck and maybe a little mean streak in him, he’ll be there….
He reminds me of Dirk [Nowitzki] so much, man. Just meeting him, his personality,” Stackhouse said. “Look at him on the court, you get kind of an aloofness from the outside in. But being around him in the locker room and on the plane, he’s always joking and stuff. There’s a lot of similarities between those two.”
Also some great quotes in there from Coach Skiles. Great to read this kind of praise for the Big Aussie, especially on the official NBA site.

Bloody brilliant to see him on action on free-to-air TV having a blinder against the Mavs. Pity they went down.
He’s so underated.
great article. glad to see he’s getting a little more love this season. he won’t be underrated for long at this rate.
yeah it really was great to be able to watch that game. i couldn’t help but wonder if he’s in 3 or 4 years he’ll have developed his game and consistency to be considered at a Pau Gasol kind of value around the league.
Anyone with the name Aschburner should definitely be listened to for a start.
I think Bogut is unfortunately stuck in a city that just isn’t sexy enough for the ASG. I mean, you’ve got Michael Redd and who else? Vin Baker?
They’ve had four guys this century make the ASG… Baker, Redd, Ray Allen and Glenn “Big Flog” Robinson. Even when the Bucks made the Conference Finals in 2001 against AI’s Sixers, no one outside of Wisconsin wanted them to win.
I’ll take it a step further and say that no one really liked Ray Allen until he moved to the Celtics. Sure, everyone respected his game but he certainly wasn’t fashionable until he donned the Celtic colors.
Place Bogut in Boston, Cleveland, Orlando or even Miami and he goes to the ASG. In Milwaukee… I just don’t see him being appreciated properly.
PS – I hope I’m wrong.
perhaps Jennings could be considered a potential all-star calibre player of the future for someone 19/20 y.o. – not saying he is anywhere near that level now of course. i think overall he’s actually making Bucks basketball quite a bit sexier, i’m happy to say that i find the idea of the Bucks far easier to like (aside from just having Bogs) due to having his flash and excitement, and i reckon he alone has probably drawn some more viewing attention towards the Bucks. if that helps people see Bogut then it’s a bonus. but they’re still a couple pieces away from doing anything substantial.
All stars were leaked, he did not make it. Al Horford got in ahead of him… This is not yet confirmed though.
Al Horford?!? Fuck that.
Horford i guess got the nod becuase of the teams record. Bogut is a much better player.
Derrick Rose? That’s bad.
Al Horford 12.8 PT .500 of 10.8 FG .769 of 2.6 FT — 3P 9.0/2.6 RB 2.8 AS 1.2 BL 0.4 ST 1.4 TO 3.4 PF 32.6 MN 5/5 GS (last 5 games)
Andrew Bogut 21.2 PT .714 of 11.2 FG .813 of 6.4 FT — 3P 8.4/1.2 RB 1.2 AS 2.4 BL 0.4 ST 2.0 TO 3.2 PF 33.5 MN 5/5 GS (last 5 games)
i can’t believe david lee didn’t get a jersey either. feel bad for him.
Still not convinced Lee deserved a spot – plays no D and puts up his numbers in a junky NY system.
I would have liked to see one of Noah or Bogut in for Horford, and J-Smoove in for Rose (who played like shit for 2/3rds of the season).
David Lee is there because he plays in New York and is on national TV every two minutes. If Bogey was in a primetime city, things would be different. He legitimately has played really well this season and all going to plan, they can’t snub him next season.
I think getting one year of snubbing is obligatory to make the all-star team…
David Lee’s numbers are padded by the team he’s on
yeah cop that rob. not only is al a big sexy man he is also an all star.
i guess i might actually watch the game this year.
Al Horford should be in the Doubting Thomas Draft… maybe he can replace Roko Ukic?
I think if you had to put in a second Atlanta Hawk it should have been Josh Smith. My East reserves would have been:
G: Joe Johnson, Rondo
F: Pierce, Bosh
C: Bogut (or D.Lee)
UTL: Josh Smith, G.Wallace
so Ham, how did Al Horford do today against a real All-Star in Dwight Howard?
I think he was eaten alive.
