In case you got sidetracked by Kobe’s heroic antics against Sacramento (how shit was the ESPN Australia’s coverage in that final minute??) there was some quality balling going down in the D-League. Just days after it was announced Mills would be assigned to the Idaho Stampede in the NBDL, he has made an absolutely epic debut. Here’s the line:
38 points, 13-25 shooting, 7-10 threes, 12 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals in 36 minutes
Or in other words, a “f**k you I don’t belong in the D-Leage” game. Patty stamped his authority on this game from the get-go, dropping 12 points and 3 dimes in the first quarter, helping the Stampede to a 37-32 lead. Check out the box-score here, and the game-recap. Hopefully they post some video too, and I’ll certainly be scouring YouTube for Mills highlights.
I will update this post as more news and reactions filter through, so stay tuned. Also, if you hadn’t heard the most recent unfortunate Blazers news, Steve Blake has been admitted to hospital with pneumonia. Maybe Patty will get that re-call faster than we thought?
UPDATE: Game highlights have been posted on YouTube.
UPDATE: Check out Mookie’s thoughts over at A Stern Warning
UPDATE 3/1: Ridiculous Upside talking about Patty in their latest Last Night in the D-League post:
Patty Mills is obviously healthy. He was the fastest player on the floor, showing no sign of the foot injury that’s sidelined him since Summer League, and fit perfectly in Idaho’s run and gun offense. Mills came off the bench to score 38 points and dish 12 assists. To put that in perspective, Idaho has the fastest offense in the D-League, nothing like the Trail Blazers’, but still, wow. Mills showed a deadly 3-point shot, hitting 7-of-10 from beyond the arc (most on open looks) and picked up a few easy drive-and-dish assists courtesy of former Blazer Anthony Tolliver. With Steve Blake out with pneumonia, I wonder if the Blazers won’t bring Mills back up to the D-League sooner rather than later.
UPDATE 3/1: The Columbian - Patty could soon rejoin Blazers

Off-topic I know, but that was disgraceful by ESPN Australia. 2+ minute ad-breaks and returning to the game to see teams returning to the bench for the next time out – so annoying. Is it even worth emailing them?! (i’ve not been sufficiently p!ssed off by them before)
holy smokes! Go Patty! that is a massive eff-you in the Blazers direction.
didn’t catch the ESPN game. but that doesn’t surprise me. they do that shit all the time.
totally hear ya worm. i was so riled up during that final minute. could not believe how f**king incompetent these ESPN guys are. i’m just thankful we actually got to see Kobe’s shot.
but yes, how bout that Patty? can’t wait to see some video. and i’m surprised he hit that many threes. didn’t think that was his strong point?
He is actually quite a good 3pt shooter. His stats from college didn’t show it because half the ones he took were contested at the end of the shot clock because they couldnt get a decent shot
GO PATTY! hopefully they bump him up to replace steve blake. permanently.
wow what a fat stats line that is.
probably won’t be coming off the bench for too long for that mob.
@aimon – I don’t get how that’s directed at the Blazers… They picked him up in the draft despite having 3 point guards, signed him while he was injured and they had clear roster needs elsewhere. Why would he want to say “eff-you” to them?
