Obviously Henry is only reporting the facts/stats there, so its hard to say he’s being “biased”. But the real question is why does he even feel the need to write that? Which I suspect the answer is, “because he dislikes Kobe Bryant”.

As a Kobe-appreciator, this reminds me of something very similar to what Abbott did a couple of months back. NBA.com released a highlight reel of Kobe’s best dunks, and Abbott felt the need to analyse that highlight reel and somehow pull the “Kobe is selfish” card.

I was really astounded when I read that. Just flabbergasted someone could take a fun highlight reel like that and see such a negative angle. Sure, his analysis appears balanced, but c’mon… which player’s Dunks Reel can’t you apply that same argument to?

Now Kobe hits these buzzer-beaters and Henry writes another similar, negative, article. Seems to be a pattern there…

“You can remember Bryant hitting all those clutch baskets, stat geeks say. But you’re forgetting all the misses. (And if you are learning about Bryant from highlights, then you’re not even seeing most misses.)”

I mean, what the fuck is that? Is it just me or does that not come off like an absolute sore loser? Why does Henry Abbott feel the need to point out to everyone that we’re “forgetting all the misses”?? That is 1) blatantly obvious and is the nature of any sport-fan relationship, and 2) bordering on straight up player-hating. It’s like saying no one remembers all of Tiger Woods missed putts. Of course we don’t! The man was a champion (and a douche) and proved it time and time again over his career by hitting huge putts.

I agree, most of what Abbott writes is very balanced. Which is why his Kobe-hate is so blindingly obvious to me. Take it from me, I’m a Lakers fan, and he has NEVER written one good thing about Kobe Bryant.
