One of the links you would have seen sitting in ‘Our Aussie Mates’ section for the past few months is JR On Fire, an Aussie basketball blog by NBL Townsville Crocodiles Captain John Rillie. For those that don’t know John, he’s the dude that hit a crazy 10 threes in the 2009 NBL quarter finals just a couple of months ago – check the clip. Not only has John hit more threes in a game than I ever did, but he also produces (along with DJ Rod) a much better podcast than I ever did (for anyone that followed us when we were the TrashTalk Podcast Blog). “The OT” podcast is quite simply a must-hear for any Aussie basketball fan, and is the only basketball podcast – along with The Basketball Jones – that I bother listening to.
Usually the podcast focuses on the National Basketball League and other happenings in the world of Australian ball, but now that it’s the NBL off-season, the latest edition of The OT turns to the NBA. Episode 28 features an interview with newly appointed Boomers Coach Brett Brown (who is also a Spurs assistant coach and has a thing or two to say about Tony Parker’s flopping talents), a look at the first-round playoff series, and a great interview with former NBL MVP Derrick Rucker! Who could forget D-Ruck, holds the all-time NBL record for assists in a game (24), is fourth all-time in 40-point games (20) and averaged 23.4 points over a mammoth 375 game career (in the NBL 375 games is a long time).
So go check out JR On Fire and subscribe to The OT podcast. Having made podcasts before I know how much time and effort goes into these things, so keep up the great work John and DJ. We are all listening.
