So the choice becomes, watch NBA on free to air, or subscribe to foxtel for $60+pm so i can watch NBL... hmmmmm tough choice that one....

I guess, if i was a Hawks fan, and was watching hawks games, i'd find the NBL more interesting too. :)

asian basketball should form a champions league, like the euroleague. they could called it the a-league ho ho.

chuck, you do realise that the nbl is only shown on foxtel right? if anything the nbl has already died but is clinging to the millions foxtel gave them for exclusive tv coverage.

and also, the tigers kings grand final series earlier this year was one of the best i've seen in any league.

last time Milko and me went to a game, we had to spice it up by counting how many time the ball should have been dunked, but wasn't. we ran out of fingers and toes, and 2 beers later we lost count entirely.

the point is, after watching NBA, NBL is just lame. If anything, NBA coverage on free to air will spell the end of NBL as nobody will want to watch it!

yes we all know the NBL needs an overhaul. the trouble is ham, right now if you only
"put teams where there is a market" you won't end up with many teams at all. i don't think there really is a big market, outside Melbourne.

so i think it needs to come from promoting the game of basketball itself, rather than the NBL. get more kids playing it, show more of our Aussie stars like Bogut and Patty Mills, etc. A big factor in this is the NBA. that will spark people's interest and in turn help our local league, because the NBA is far more marketable now than the NBL. when the NBL was huge in the nineties the NBA was too, and i don't think that's a coincidence.

i don't agree, SOME australian basketball is screwed. by sheer co-incidence i happened to be in my car listening to SEN at dawn a few weeks ago with an interview of brian goorjian talking about about the state of basketball in sydney. he described it as 'diabolical', and thats off the court grass roots infrastructure he was talking about. he also said they just have to drop having a sydney team in the nbl all together ... and last i heard the new sydney team is not getting much more than 1000 at each game.

last tigers v dragons game got 10k. they need to put teams where there is a market rather than try to create a market using a team.

oh, and good to see the hawks "rally" to beat orlando by 15 despite leading comfortably at every change. is that like leyton hewitt rallying to beat federer?

Australian basketball is financially screwed. Not even a successful Channel 10 Sports coverage of NBA, a successful Bogut or bringing Gaze back (which is probably just as likely) will save it.
