It finally happened! Someone finally had a game worthy of being labelled a “dolphin saver”. For those who think I’ve lost my mind completely, I’m referring to the challenge I put out on day 1 of the NBA season. That was when Kobe pulled out 45 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in tough loss to the Rockets. I was stunned that an NBA player could play a game like this on opening night, coming off little more than a few light pre-season games, especially considering the turbulent off-season Kobe and the Lakers enjoyed. I went on record as saying it might be the most impressive opening-night game I’ve ever seen, and to drive home my point I decided to put my money where my mouth is:
I will personally notify all you TrashTalk readers of any game in which a player goes 45pts-8rebs-4ass-4stls for the rest of the season. I will celebrate each occasion with a new blog and a $10 donation to the Save a Dolphin Foundation. I guarantee you that happens like two or three times max this season, if at all, and they will probably all be from KB24.
Well, 60 games into the season LBJ has finally pulled one out and actually went one-up on Kobe. Lebron had 50 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds and 4 steals, and more importantly pulled out the win for his Cavs. Is it more impressive than Kobe’s 45 on opening night? I’m not sure, but who the hell cares. It’s the dolphins that are the real winners here folks.
I’m pretty sure dolphins shoot a better FT% than Shaq
Having checked the box score and confirmed it was indeed a ‘dolphin saver’ I set about to find a charity worthy of my $10. I decided to go with the Dolphin Research Institute because they sound like a very serious dolphin-researching company who will look after dolphins and teach them a little discipline, as opposed to the WWF who probably just teach their dolphins how to wrestle. Using my trusty credit card I donated the $10 online and felt compelled to let them know about my extreme generosity. I sent them the following message from their Contact Us page:
Hi there, I’ve just donated $10 to your organisation in the hope that it will save a dolphin somewhere. Don’t thank me though, thank Lebron James who scored 50 points and had 10 assists, 8 rebounds and 4 steals which apart from being a very good game, is also worth a $10 donation to the dolphins. If you haven’t heard of Lebron James don’t worry, he hasn’t heard of you either, but you might want to make an effort to get to know him because any time I donate $10 to you guys it’s probably because he’s just completely castrated the New York Knicks or some other similarly pathetic team. Here’s hoping you save the dolphins before the Knicks get saved from Isiah.
So it seems everyone wins today. The dolphins win with their new $10, the Cavs win big and keep their top-4 playoff hopes alive, Lebron wins a few more MVP brownie points with a ridiculously good game, and I win thanks to my Day 1 prediction being reasonably true. The only people that lose out are the Knicks really. And since when is that news to any one.
