Every now and then I get in these statistical moods. Here are a few interesting numbers from yesterday’s games:

  • J-Kidd got his third straight triple-double, his 10th of the season and the 97th of his career. Kidd’s previous best was 12 triple doubles in the 06-07 season and he’s well poised to pass that this season. In case you’re wondering what the record for most TD’s in one season is? It’s 41, by none other than Oscar Robertson in 1961-62 (the season he averaged a triple double)
  • With his 29 point, 15 rebound effort against the Kings, Dwight Howard racked up his 19th game with 15 or more rebounds for the season. You’d figure he’s on target for at least 40 of those this season. How does that rank? Since the 1986-87 season only Ben Wallace (02-03), Kevin Willis (91-92) and Dennis Rodman (91-92, 92-93, 93-94, 97-98) have had more than 40 games in a season with 15+ rebounds – the most being Rodman’s 66 in 1991-92
  • Of course unlike Rodman, Howard can play offense – in 12 of those 15+ rebound games he’s had 25+ points to go with it. That puts him on pace for about 25 games of 25pts-15reb. How does that rank? Since 1986-87 Shaq holds the record with 26 games of 25-15, so Dwight might be on track to beat that and make a little history for himself this season (but of course Wilt probably had 82 of these games back in 1961-62… not that we take Wilt’s numbers seriously in today’s game of basketball)
  • Kobe had a season-high 5 steals in the Lakers win over the Grizz yesterday, to go with his 25 points and 6 assists. You might think Kobe has racked up plenty of these games over his career, but it was only the 6th time he went 25pts/6ass/5stls. He’s quite a way back from some of his modern day contemporaries in these 25-6-5 games: Iverson (30), Gary Payton (14), Baron Davis (10), Jason Kidd (9), Gilbert Arenas (7) and Lebron James (7)
  • Derek Fisher had an incredible shooting game against the Grizz, going 10-11 (91%) from the field including 5-5 from three point range. You know where I’m going with this… how many times has this happened? In the last 20 years only 13 players have had games shooting better than 91% while hitting 5 or more threes. This exclusive list includes players such as Nick Van Excel, Michael Finley, James Posey and Kyle Korver
